Look, over at Revelle, we do NOT believe in labeling our bodies. We are vehemently against labels in general, but especially when they have underlying connotations of comparison or judgement.
It’s my personal belief (hi, JoAnna, founder of Revelle here) that body shape ‘labels’ (apple shape, pear shape, hourglass shape, etc) do exactly this. They encourage us to categorize ourselves, and inherently lead to comparisons about what shapes are ‘better’ or ‘more desirable’ than others. Honestly, fuck that.
Part of Revelle’s purpose is to dismantle these labels and help every single woman realize that her body is absolutely beautiful just the way it is. Every day, every moment, every year. BUT, in order to achieve that goal, we need to acknowledge certain things about the world that we currently operate in.
And one of those things is that we’ve been taught to categorize our bodies for years — by magazine articles telling us what we should or shouldn’t wear based on our body shapes, by brands trying to sell us the latest diet craze, even by our mothers and grandmothers who frankly hadn’t been taught any better and probably thought they were doing us a favor.
So rather than pretending that we haven’t been conditioned to use these labels, we want to help you work within them to discover what clothes actually make you feel comfortable and at home in your body when you get dressed in the morning. And if that means we need to use these labels from time to time to help you understand and feel more comfortable with what we’re discussing, then so be it. But I want to be crystal clear that over at Revelle we hate these labels — they diminish the complexity of true women’s bodies and frankly make us feel bad about ourselves. We hope you’ll join us in rejecting these rules by joining our community that helps you find clothes that make you feel beautiful WITHOUT the need for labeling each other’s bodies. But in the meantime, we hope this article on the best jeans for a pear-shaped body helps you begin exploring some new styles and rediscover the joy of shopping.
If you identify with this body shape, your hip and thigh area is probably wider than your upper body, making it difficult to find the perfect pair of jeans that fit your defined waist the way YOU want them to. To make things easier, we’ve compiled a list of jeans that are particularly suited for pear-esque triangular shapes — although keep in mind that the best way to get tailored recommendations is via your personal Revelle store.
When putting together this list, we prioritized jeans that widen below the knee in order to streamline the silhouette — in this case, bootcut and wide leg/flared jeans. This cut helps divert attention away from the hips, which some may be looking for. We also kept an eye out for stretch fabric and roomier cuts so the jeans can better shape around your beautiful curves.
So without further ado…
Available at Nordstrom, this classic bootcut is made with exclusive LiftTuck Technology that helps flatten the tummy and lift the rear. The high pockets and deep yoke (aka the part of your jeans in the back just below the waistband — essentially right where your butt goes) don’t hurt either. Because they stretch with wear, we recommend ordering one size down for the perfect fit around wider hips.
Co-founded by Khloé Kardashian, Good American has innovated since day one with size inclusive jeans that span 00 to 24. Also, every product is shown on three size ranges of models to make it that much easier to find the right jeans that make you feel the most at home in your pear body shape. These straight leg jeans have a contoured waistband (so no waist gaps) and are made with elastane. There’s also subtle embellishments via rips at the knee, which we LOVE.
This sleek, slimming pair of bootcut ankle jeans won’t feel like a second skin hugging your body but will still be form-fitting around your legs and hips (except for a narrow ankle opening).
Looking for a way to make the whole jean shopping process WAY easier?
That’s where Revelle comes in. When you join — which, BTW, doesn’t cost you anything — we’ll ask you a few questions about your beautiful body. From there, we work our magic (and by magic, we mean technology) to build your personal store. As you like (heart) and dislike (broken heart) jeans, we’ll get to know your tastes, preferences, and style even better so you can find your perfect pair.
Can’t go wrong with a classic pair of high-waisted bootcut, especially when they’re sustainably made with 29% recycled cotton/polyester, as well as stretch-friendly viscose and elastane to hug your waistline.
Made with 4-way stretch denim with built-in recovery, these Lola jeans certainly err on the snug side. They’re one of the few mid-rise pairs on the list, which means they fit right along the waist rather than above your belly button.
These dark wash stretchy jeans are made with a blend of cotton, rayon, polyester, and spandex, these high-rise black jeans from Dollhouse will beautifully hug your pear-shape figure. Front pockets are decorative, back are patch.
Revelle is on a mission to make women feel beautiful in their bodies every day by helping them find clothes that actually FIT, and we only feature jeans we think you’ll love as much as we do.
