I could wear... Pear Shape Edition

10 Best Jeans For Pear-Shaped Women (and why we hate that phrase)

Part of Revelle’s purpose is to dismantle these labels and help every woman realize that her body is beautiful just the way it is. BUT, in order to achieve that goal, we need to acknowledge certain things about the world that we currently operate in. So in the meantime, we hope this article helps you begin exploring some new styles and rediscover the joy of shopping.

Look, over at Revelle, we do NOT believe in labeling our bodies. We are vehemently against labels in general, but especially when they have underlying connotations of comparison or judgement.

It’s my personal belief (hi, JoAnna, founder of Revelle here) that body shape ‘labels’ (apple shape, pear shape, hourglass shape, etc) do exactly this. They encourage us to categorize ourselves, and inherently lead to comparisons about what shapes are ‘better’ or ‘more desirable’ than others. Honestly, fuck that.

Part of Revelle’s purpose is to dismantle these labels and help every single woman realize that her body is absolutely beautiful just the way it is. Every day, every moment, every year. BUT, in order to achieve that goal, we need to acknowledge certain things about the world that we currently operate in.

And one of those things is that we’ve been taught to categorize our bodies for years — by magazine articles telling us what we should or shouldn’t wear based on our body shapes, by brands trying to sell us the latest diet craze, even by our mothers and grandmothers who frankly hadn’t been taught any better and probably thought they were doing us a favor.

So rather than pretending that we haven’t been conditioned to use these labels, we want to help you work within them to discover what clothes actually make you feel comfortable and at home in your body when you get dressed in the morning. And if that means we need to use these labels from time to time to help you understand and feel more comfortable with what we’re discussing, then so be it. But I want to be crystal clear that over at Revelle we hate these labels — they diminish the complexity of true women’s bodies and frankly make us feel bad about ourselves. We hope you’ll join us in rejecting these rules by joining our community that helps you find clothes that make you feel beautiful WITHOUT the need for labeling each other’s bodies. But in the meantime, we hope this article on the best jeans for a pear-shaped body helps you begin exploring some new styles and rediscover the joy of shopping.

If you identify with this body shape, your hip and thigh area is probably wider than your upper body, making it difficult to find the perfect pair of jeans that fit your defined waist the way YOU want them to. To make things easier, we’ve compiled a list of jeans that are particularly suited for pear-esque triangular shapes — although keep in mind that the best way to get tailored recommendations is via your personal Revelle store

When putting together this list, we prioritized jeans that widen below the knee in order to streamline the silhouette — in this case, bootcut and wide leg/flared jeans. This cut helps divert attention away from the hips, which some may be looking for. We also kept an eye out for stretch fabric and roomier cuts so the jeans can better shape around your beautiful curves.

So without further ado…

What Types Of Jeans To Look For

Our favorite types of jeans are the ones that make you feel comfortable and confident (no matter what style they are)! However, if you want some help finding jeans that fit and flatter your pear body shape, here are a few things to look for:

  • Styles that are loose below the knee: Bootcut, flare, and straight-leg jeans are all great examples. These cuts will balance out your body shape and flatter those curves!
  • Curvy-fit: Curvy-fit jeans are made for curvy bodies. Seriously! It’s no marketing gimmick. Most “curvy-fit” jeans are made with different proportions and have more room in the hip and thigh areas.
  • High-rise or mid-rise: Jeans with a high-rise waistline will hit your natural waist and ensure there aren’t any uncomfy buttons cutting into your curvier sections.

10 Best Jeans For Pear-Shaped Women

We spend ALL day looking at jeans so you don’t have to! That’s because we know how frustrating it is to look for jeans that work with your beautiful body shape (not against it).

We scoured the internet and found 10 pairs of jeans we know you’ll love.

The high pockets and deep yoke (aka the part of your jeans in the back just below the waistband — essentially right where your butt goes) don’t hurt either. Because they stretch with wear, we recommend ordering one size down for the perfect fit around wider hips.
