I could wear… inverted triangle body shape edition

7 Jeans For An Inverted Triangle Body Shape (And Why We Hate That Phrase)

You may very well have heard our thoughts about labels like this on the jeans for pear-shaped women and hourglass shaped-women blog posts, but it’s worth repeating again…

Because look, over at Revelle, we do NOT believe in labeling our bodies. We are vehemently against labels in general, but especially when they have underlying connotations of comparison or judgment.

It’s my personal belief (hi, JoAnna, founder of Revelle here) that body shape ‘labels’ (apple shape, pear shape, hourglass shape, muffin top, etc) do exactly this. They encourage us to categorize ourselves, and inherently lead to comparisons about what shapes are ‘better’ or ‘more desirable’ than others. Honestly, f*ck that.

Part of Revelle’s purpose is to dismantle these labels and help every single woman realize that her body is absolutely beautiful just the way it is. Every day, every moment, every year. BUT, in order to achieve that goal, we need to acknowledge certain things about the world that we currently operate in.

And one of those things is that we’ve been taught to categorize our bodies for years — by magazine articles telling us what we should or shouldn’t wear based on our body shapes, by brands trying to sell us the latest diet craze, even by our mothers and grandmothers who frankly hadn’t been taught any better and probably thought they were doing us a favor.

So rather than pretending that we haven’t been conditioned to use these labels, we want to help you work within them to discover what clothes actually make you feel comfortable and at home in your body when you get dressed in the morning. And if that means we need to use these labels from time to time to help you understand and feel more comfortable with what we’re discussing, then so be it. But I want to be crystal clear that over at Revelle we hate these labels — they diminish the complexity of true women’s bodies and frankly make us feel bad about ourselves. We hope you’ll join us in rejecting these rules by joining our community that helps you find clothes that make you feel beautiful WITHOUT the need for labeling each other’s bodies. But in the meantime, we hope this article on the best jeans for an inverted triangle body shape helps you begin exploring some new styles and rediscover the joy of shopping.

If you identify with this body shape — which is also referred to as an inverted triangle shape — your shoulders are likely broader and rounder than your hips and midsection, which isn’t THAT curvy. Inverted triangle body shapes generally (but not always) have broader shoulders with a narrow bottom half.

Considering the unique (and beautiful!) proportions of an inverted triangle shaped body type, it can be difficult to find the perfect pair of jeans that fits the way YOU want them to. That’s why, to make things easier, we’ve compiled a list of jeans that are particularly suited for the inverted triangle body shape — although keep in mind that the best way to get tailored recommendations is through your personal Revelle store.

What is an inverted triangle body shape?

Let’s back up – what is an inverted triangle body shape, exactly?

Body shapes are alllll about proportions. An “inverted triangle” shape just means your upper half is wider than your lower half. You may have broad shoulders, a larger chest, a narrow hip area, and slim legs.

Types of jeans for an inverted triangle body shape

It’s important to find jeans that make you feel comfortable and confident. So if you have a favorite style, stick with that!

If you’re looking for new ideas – here are a few jean styles that will suit your body shape.

    • Loose-fitting silhouettes: Looser silhouettes will balance out your top half (whereas tight jeans may emphasize your narrow lower body). Look for wide-leg, straight-leg, or boyfriend jeans.
    • Silhouettes with balance: If loose jeans aren’t your thing – look for elongating silhouettes like bootcut and flare jeans. These will show off your legs but also provide balance since they’re loose below the knee.
    • Mid-rise or high-rise: Choose a higher waistline to accentuate your waist and elongate your legs.

Let’s get into the jeans!

We are obsessed with the criss-cross jeans trend, and this pair is at the top of our list. The loose-fitting legs will balance out your upper body, while the waistband adds a bit of flare.

What We Love

  • Criss-cross waistband: We love this funky, trendy, flattering waistband.
  • Raw hem: Sometimes the details make the jeans, and this pair is a great example of that. The raw hem adds an ‘undone’ element and we’re obsessed.
  • Vintage-inspired light wash: Light-blue jeans are *in.*
    •

What We Don’t Love

  • Runs large: According to some reviews, these jeans run large – so you might want to size down.
  • Non-stretch: These jeans are 100% cotton so they aren’t stretchy.
