Show off those beautiful curves, ladies!
Finding a pair of jeans that fits you the way YOU want them to is *especially* difficult for those of us with curvier backsides. The culprit? The waist gap — ya know, that feeling when a pair of jeans fits our butt perfectly but not our waist…or vice versa, leaving us resigned to the fact that jeans will fit one or the other but never both. I guess it’s a good thing we have a tailor…right?
NO!! It doesn’t have to be this hard. Say it with us now…IT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE THIS HARD.
Below, we’ve rounded up our list of the best jeans for big butts. Here’s what we looked for:
- Between 2-6% of stretch denim material (e.g., lycra, spandex)
As the name suggests, stretch jeans will mold and stretch to your body, but you don’t want TOOOO much stretch, otherwise you’ll end up with a baggy fit at the end of the day.
- Designated curvy jeans
…which often means extra room in the back, the perfect amount of stretch material, and contoured waistbands.
- A few (but not all) plus-size cuts
Telling a woman with a bigger backside to “just go for a plus-size cut!” may sometimes be the right piece of advice, but it’s important to acknowledge that bigger backsides don’t always mean plus-size.
- High-rise jeans
Rather than mid-rise or low-rise.
Co-founded by Khloé Kardashian, Good American has innovated since day one with size inclusive jeans that span 00 to 24. Also, every product is shown on three size ranges of models to make it that much easier to find your perfect fit and help you feel the most at home in your body. These, which come with an exposed button fly for extra flair, have a contoured waistband (goodbye, waist gaps) and are made with 2% Lycra spandex for the perfect amount of stretch.
Same trusty technology as above (contoured waistband, stretch material), but in the form of straight leg jeans instead of skinny and made with elastane instead of spandex. These also come with subtle rips at the knee, which we L-O-V-E.
Levi’s crafts these curvy, high-rise skinny jeans with a unique sculpting blend of Lycra cotton and hyper-stretchy material — with perfectly placed back pockets to boot.
For a more relaxed fit (that’s not, ya know, leggings or jeggings), it doesn’t get much better than boyfriend jeans. Although they’re, by definition, a bit slouchy (and thus roomier in the back!), that doesn’t mean they’re not sleek. In fact, more and more brands are designing boyfriend cuts with a slight taper to lend the look a touch more structure. We love styling these with a graphic T-shirt for a go-to street style look.
Can’t go wrong with a classic pair of high-waisted bootcut, especially when they’re sustainably made with 29% recycled cotton/polyester, as well as stretch-friendly viscose and elastane.
^^ See the smile on that model’s face? THAT’S the result of finding jeans that make your butt look *exactly* how you want it too (no wedgies to be found).
Wondering why mom jeans didn’t make the cut? Here’s the thing: this nostalgic, 90s style is classically made with 100% cotton, which means very little — if any — stretch. But if you’d like to give ‘em a try, by all means! Here are 15 of our faves. There are no “rules” when it comes to finding clothes that make YOU feel beautiful.
