Early pregnancy is such an exciting time in a family’s life. You’re preparing for the future, going to so many doctor’s appointments, and soaking up time before your baby comes into the world. Although your due date might feel far away… you may have already noticed changes in your body.
Early pregnancy is synonymous with the first trimester (the first 12 weeks of pregnancy). During this time, most of your clothes probably still fit… but you may have noticed your jeans starting to get uncomfortable. Consider these tips as you start shopping for jeans for your growing belly:
- Comfort is key. Whether jeans are labeled “maternity” or not, look for pairs made of stretch denim that have an elastic waistband. Stretch denim incorporates spandex so that the fabric can stretch in all directions. Trust us, stretch jeans are just as cute and even more comfortable. Plus, many types of jeans have stretch features, not just jeggings and maternity leggings.
- Wear what makes you HAPPY! Don’t feel pressured to start buying maternity clothes before you’re ready. Size up in your favorite pre-pregnancy jeans (if needed) until your belly pops. But if you’re excited to get into those stretchy, belly-band jeans… do it! Jeans are meant to be comfortable. What you wear is all up to personal preference, so wear what makes you feel comfortable and confident!
- If you go for maternity jeans, try on different varieties. Different maternity jeans use different waistbands. “Over the bump” styles have a full panel that stretches over your bump. “Under the bump” styles have a stretchy waist that sits below your baby bump. “Side panel” styles look just like non-maternity jeans, but have stretchy side panels that give you room to grow.
