The name of the game? Stretch, versatility, deep pockets, and the ability to dry quickly.
As the country begins slowly, safely opening back up and summer creeps closer, some of us may be itching to get away for a bit — whether it’s to visit extended family we haven’t seen in over a year or simply to enjoy well-deserved time away from Zoom. Whatever the case, travel (in some way, shape, or form), may happen this summer…which has us thinking about what jeans to pack.
Below, we’ve rounded up our top picks that check all the necessary boxes:
- A good amount of stretch
Because c’mon, this is vacation. You better believe we’re eating allllllll the food and drinking allllllll the drinks. The last thing we want is to feel constricted in our denim jeans.
Not the fake kind that look like pockets but actually aren’t. We’re talkin’ real-deal, deep pockets to hold all the STUFF we inevitably end up with after a day out and about (receipts, change for the meter, ticket stubs…you get the point). Bonus points for zipper pockets.
- The ability to dry quickly
There’s no way we’re sitting around in damp jeans after getting caught in the rain. No, thank you. Jeans with a bit of spandex, nylon, or polyester will help in the moisture-wicking department.
- Versatility when it comes to shoes and tops
There’s only so much room in our suitcase, which means mixing and matching is the way to go. Think neutral colors and light on the patterns.
These skinnies are made with a travel-perfect trifecta of cotton, polyester, and lycra. They cut off just around the ankles, which means they’re perfect for sneakers, ballet flats, sandals…you name it. Plus, they have an extra soft feel and are *just* stretchy enough to be comfy, but not baggy.
We’re not sure what we like best about these oh-so-comfortable jeans: the relaxed fit courtesy of stretch fabric (cotton, modal, polyester, and elastane) or the slightly distressed details. We’ll let you make the call.
Two words for you: zippered pockets. A travel game-changer! These high-waist cargo pants — which strike the perfect balance between function and fashion — have the added bonus of an ultra-comfy spandex blend, which means they’re our go-to for long-haul flights (sorry, sweatpants and leggings…we still love you).
There is arguably nothing more versatile than a pair of dark-wash jeans — they pair with practically anything you throw in your carry-on. This mid-rise pair from Jessica Simpson has a classic, 5-pocket styling with an inseam of 26 inches when cuffed, 28 when uncuffed.
This pair from Levi’s is a go-to classic with stretch, functional back pockets, nice and wide button loops, and pretty much everything else you’d need from a pair of travel jeans. You can’t go wrong.
Get this: these NYDJ jeans are made with Coolmax technology, which works to keep you comfortable if the temperature rises — ideal for those long travel days when you get an early, chilly morning start and end up sweltering by mid-afternoon. Because these are pull-on straight leg jeans, you won’t find front pockets, but there are deep ones in the back. The perfect pair, if you ask us.
Looking to spice up your travel wardrobe with a pair of jeans that’s not the classic denim color? Look no further than these boyfriend jeans, which come in deep green or pink — both of which are still incredibly versatile and able to pair with all the sweaters, T-shirts, and button-downs you desire.
