7 Ways To Style Baggy Jeans

Outfit ideas to help you style baggy pants like a PRO and feel like your most beautiful, confident, bad-ass self.

ICYMI, back in March, there was a generational debate between millennials and Gen Zers on TikTok over the *contentious* topic of skinny jeans, with the younger generation mocking the 2000s-era style. In fact, since January, there have been 274,000 videos tagged “no skinny jeans” and 8.3 million millennial vs Gen Z videos. Because apparently, baggier bootcut jeans are what’s “in” now.

I’m not sure how quickly we’ll be tossing our beloved skinny jeans, but that doesn’t mean we can’t embrace the denim trend of loose-fitting baggier cuts and oversized jeans. They’re most commonly referred to as boyfriend jeans and take a cue from the relaxed, masculine look. First spotted on actress Marilyn Monroe back in the 60s, they’ve been seen on everyone from Katie Holmes (who used to actually wear Tom Cruise’s jeans) to Margot Robbie, Diane Kruger, Gigi Hadid, and Jessica Chatain. Although they’re, by definition, a bit slouchy, that doesn’t mean they’re not sleek. In fact, more and more brands are designing boyfriend cuts with a slight taper to lend the look a touch more structure.

It’s the perfect way to channel the laid-back comfort of sweatpants without actually, ya know, wearing sweatpants and we are so. here. for. it.

Below are seven outfit ideas to help you style baggy pants like a PRO and feel like your most beautiful, confident, bad-ass self.

A button-down cardigan would also work like a charm in order to look put together and professional while still retaining a sense of style.

White tee or graphic, oversized or cropped. It’s all fair game. Accessorize with ankle boots for a fail-safe streetwear look.

Dubbed the “Canadian Tuxedo,” this look is ideal for different shades of denim — we recommend darker wash on the bottom and light wash on top.

May we also recommend a chunky blanket scarf, a cup of tea, and a good book?
