What types of jeans work for the baggy jeans trend?

Let’s back up. Most denim brands don’t label their jeans “baggy,” so it’s hard to know what to search for when you’re online shopping.

Here are a few jean styles that can be considered baggy:

  • Straight-leg jeans: A straight-leg silhouette is fitted at the waist and straight down both legs. These jeans might just have the most variance between brands. As you’ll see below, Levi’s straight-leg jeans are on the baggier side. However, other denim brands may have more structured or fitted versions.
  • Wide-leg jeans: Wide-leg jeans are a little more dramatic than straight jeans. They use more fabric and typically give off either a baggy or flared look (depending on the brand’s style).
  • Boyfriend jeans: Boyfriend, girlfriend, dad, and mom jeans all fall on the baggy side. Most of these styles taper (or roll) at the bottom to give off a slightly cropped look. However, they’re loose (and often distressed) in the legs – which creates a cool, street-style vibe.
  • Loose fit jeans: While most brands won’t explicitly say “baggy,” they might say “loose” so keep an eye out for any jeans with “loose” or “loose fit” in the title.
